Introduction
The Marin Social platform fully supports redirect URL configuration at the Media Plan level. This is very useful if you use third-party tracking systems to build redirect URLs for both Twitter and Facebook link ads.
Note that in order for the redirect URL to work correctly, you'll need to use the landing page URL parameter {lpurl}. This parameter (also known as a macro) will be replaced dynamically with the destination URL, which you'll insert during the ad creation process for the Domain Ad and Page Post Ad ad types.
Configuring URL Redirects
There are a few different ways you can set up URL redirects with Marin Social. Below we'll explain each of these in detail.
Media Plan
The redirect URL configuration can be configured for both Twitter and Facebook media plans. When the redirect URL is set up, all Twitter and Facebook link ads will have the redirect URL.
In order to configure the redirect URL from a Facebook Media Plan, simply navigate to: Tracking > Click Tag, View Tag, URL Tags, Redirect URL Autocompletion > Redirect URL
From this textbox, you'll have access to a list of macros, of which when used in the redirect URL, will be replaced dynamically during the ad creation process.
- The macro that is required for the redirect URL to be used correctly is {lpurl} which stands for landing page URL. This {lpurl} will be replaced dynamically with the destination URL that is provided during the ad creation process for the following ad types: Domain Ad and Page Post Ad.
Note: When using extra URL parameters, please be sure to have {lpurl} set up as the last parameter in your redirect URL settings. This is because Facebook appends the extra URL parameters at the end of the URL that is set up. - Another macro that's important to consider for redirect URL setup is [marinadid]. This is a macro that will be replaced with a Marin Social unique ID that can be used for conversion and revenue attribute through the Marin Unified Reporting product. Please read our help center article here for more details.

Bulk Creator
When the redirect URL settings are configured at the Media Plan level, all supported ad types in Facebook and Twitter will have redirect URLs. You'll be able to see the full redirect URL as the ads are being created and the destination URL is added.
During the bulk creation process, the three Facebook ad types that support redirect URLs are domain ads, page post link ads, and carousel ads. When the destination URL is provided while creating these ad types, you'll see a preview of the full redirect URL, where the {lpurl} macro will be replaced by the destination URL.
Note: Depending on your third-party tracking system, the [marinadid] should be used at either the destination URL or the redirect URL. [marinadid] is important since it is used for third-party revenue and conversion attribution through Marin Unified Reporting.
During the bulk creation process, the Twitter ad type that support redirect URL is promoted website card. When the destination URL is provided when creating this ad type, you'll see a preview of the full redirect URL where the {lpurl} macro will be replaced by the destination URL.
Note: The link shortener is not required for dynamic tags to be used in redirect URLs.
Mass Editor
When you mass edit a redirect URL on either Facebook or Twitter, you'll have the option to edit the URL and add other macros of your choosing.
